Overview
The Seve RAF32 is a self-propelled rail trailer built for rail transport, with a high load capacity and a high-performance braking system. It carries up to 32 tonnes on a 6,016 mm by 2,500 mm load platform and runs at up to 23 km/h on rail. Exc@v8 is the sole UK importer of Seve.
Platform
The platform is 6,016 mm long and 2,500 mm wide overall, and four twist-lock fasteners built into the frame hold loads securely. It sits 850 mm above the rail, which keeps the equipment it carries easy to reach. The trailer weighs 5.5 tonnes empty, without options.
Power and speed
The trailer has its own hydraulic drive: 51 kW (about 70 hp) for the trailer alone, with 3,000 Nm of traction torque per axle. The maximum speed on rail is 23 km/h. Used with a Menzi Muck M585 excavator, the maximum rail speed stays at 23 km/h, and drops to 5 km/h in pedal-pass mode, the reduced speed for passing over track announcement pedals.
Braking
Several braking systems work together: an automatic hydrostatic brake with a maximum torque of 3,347 Nm, an automatic oil-bath multi-disc brake of 540 Nm, a positive-action brake with a maximum torque of 3,600 Nm, and a negative-action automatic brake that applies 750 Nm of static braking. The braking and traction systems are sized for ramps of up to 35 in 1,000.
Visibility
In forward travel the operator’s view from the excavator is unchanged. When reversing, a camera at the rear of the trailer gives a view of the ground from 20 cm to 6 metres behind it, so visibility is the same in both directions of travel.
Getting on track
Getting the trailer on the track takes 5 to 6 minutes at most, little longer than for an excavator on its own. It suits 60 kg/m rail on wooden or concrete sleepers.
Options
A branch shredder, which can be fitted to the left or right and has its own 400 hp engine, is available as an option.
Quick answers
How much can it carry? A maximum load of 32 tonnes on a 6,016 mm by 2,500 mm platform. The trailer itself weighs 5.5 tonnes empty, without options.
How fast does it run on rail? Up to 23 km/h. With a Menzi Muck M585 the maximum is also 23 km/h, reduced to 5 km/h in pedal-pass mode.
How long does it take to get on the track? 5 to 6 minutes at most.
What rail does it suit? 60 kg/m rail on wooden or concrete sleepers.
