Overview
The M585 RRV is Menzi Muck’s purpose-built rail excavator — a wheeled platform, not the walking-excavator undercarriage used elsewhere in the range, engineered specifically for mobility, speed and efficiency on the rail corridor. All-wheel steering (switchable between front, all-wheel and side steering via the joystick) gives it the manoeuvrability to work in tight sites, while a “Shift on Fly” load-shift gearbox takes it between worksites at up to 25 km/h on the road, climbing gradients of up to 62%.
Power comes from a 115 kW Deutz Turbo-Diesel engine, through two swash-plate pumps for working and driving, a gear pump for the fan and an optional third swash-plate pump for the Powerline, to cover the full range of attachments and work situations.
The APM (Anticipating Power Management) controller cuts fuel use by up to 30% by matching engine and hydraulics moment to moment, with Power, Eco and Fine modes for different work. The same proven Menzi powerboom design carries over from the walking-excavator range, with its boom cylinder mounted horizontally in the centre section so it can’t be collision-damaged.
