Seve Rail Axles
Seve's rail axles are hydrostatically driven axles made for the Menzi Muck M585, with 630 mm rail wheels, two travel speeds and a static capacity of 24 tonnes per axle.
- Made for the Menzi Muck M585
- Smooth hydrostatic drive from a 115 cm³ variable-displacement motor, with two travel speeds of 0 to 15 and 0 to 30 km/h
- Static capacity of 24 tonnes per axle, and a dynamic capacity of up to 22 tonnes per axle
- Inverted suspension absorbs track twist of up to 46 mm, with no locking or unlocking of the axles
- Dynamic disc-and-pad, hydrostatic and static multi-disc dry brakes
- 630 mm rail wheels, and motor disengagement for emergency towing

Overview
Seve’s rail axles are an innovative, high-performance solution for rail-borne equipment, and they are made for the Menzi Muck M585. They are designed for stability, smooth traction and precise movement, to meet the needs of rail and construction site professionals. Exc@v8 is the sole UK importer of Seve.
Stability
The axles are built for stable running in every position:
- A wider wheelbase spreads the load better.
- A balanced load descent, both sideways and lengthways, limits the effects of tilting, because the two axles oscillate.
- Inverted suspension absorbs track twist of up to 46 mm to compensate for irregularities and improve guidance. The axles do not need to be locked or unlocked, which avoids the tipping risk of travelling with an offset load, and the system works without hydraulic or electrical lines to lock the axles.
This lets equipment fitted with Seve axles work on new track that has not yet been adjusted, or during renewal work on badly damaged track.
Drive and speed
The hydrostatic drive transmits smoothly and without jolts when changing direction, while staying responsive for precise work. A 115 cm³ variable-displacement motor gives two travel speeds, 0 to 15 and 0 to 30 km/h, so the operator can choose a slower speed for tricky manoeuvres or a faster one for travelling. In an emergency, the motors can be disengaged so the equipment can be towed quickly, which gives a reliable answer to a breakdown or a rescue.
Braking
Several braking systems work together. Dynamic disc and pad brakes respond rapidly and dissipate a great deal of kinetic energy, a hydrostatic brake gives precise, powerful control of deceleration, and a static multi-disc dry brake holds the machine securely when it is stationary or parked.
Load capacity
Each axle has a static capacity of 24 tonnes, for lifting and holding heavy loads, and a dynamic capacity of up to 22 tonnes for moving under load. An axle weighs about 1,500 kg, or about 1,800 kg with the pedal-override option.
Options
- Pedal override allows a maximum speed of 5 km/h to pass over the announcement pedals, for a total load of 32 tonnes.
- An axle-integrated coupling system couples a self-propelled, non-towed trailer down to a minimum track curvature of R = 80 m.
Quick answers
What do the axles fit? The Menzi Muck M585. Seve gives the machine weight range as 14 to 28 tonnes.
How fast do they travel? They have two speeds: 0 to 15 km/h and 0 to 30 km/h.
What load can each axle take? A static capacity of 24 tonnes and a dynamic capacity of up to 22 tonnes per axle.
What hydraulic supply do they need? A flow of 35 to 120 l/min at 250 to 420 bar.
