Overview
Steelwrist’s S quick couplers cover excavators from 0 to 70 tonnes in eleven sizes, from the S30 to the S90. With a quick coupler fitted, the operator can connect and disconnect work tools easily on construction, demolition, landscaping and utility work. Exc@v8 supplies them in the UK.
Steel-cast construction
Steelwrist S couplers follow the symmetrical standard (the S-standard) and are cast in steel. Casting lets the material go where it is needed, such as large contact surfaces where the coupler meets the pins, and be left out where it isn’t, which gives a compact, robust coupler with no weak weld seams.
Expander pins for tiltrotators
The couplers include expander pins, which form a truss structure that takes up the lateral forces that come with using a tiltrotator. The expander pin technology gives a play-free connection between the machine arm and the coupler, reducing wear and extending the life of the equipment.
Hydraulic or mechanical
Hydraulic couplers use the excavator’s quick coupler hydraulic circuit, so the operator can change work tools from the cab. Every size from the S30 to the S90 is available with hydraulic locking.
With a mechanical coupler the operator has to get out of the cab and unlock the coupler by hand to change tool. Mechanical couplers are mainly used on small, compact excavators, and Steelwrist offers a mechanical version of its two smallest sizes, the S30 and S40.
Safety
Steelwrist’s safety solutions are machine-independent: they work on all types of excavator, small or large, new or used. In the size table below, the S30, S40 and S40 W have Front Pin Hook (FPH) and the S45 upwards have Front Pin Lock (FPL). All its solutions comply with international safety regulations such as EN474 and ISO13031.
Upgrading to automatic SQ
With a hydraulically powered tool such as a grapple, a hydraulic S coupler means getting out of the cab to connect the hoses at each tool change. A hydraulic S coupler can be upgraded to an automatic SQ coupler at a later stage. SQ is its automatic oil connection technology for changing and connecting hydraulic work tools without leaving the cab. See the SQ quick couplers.
Choosing a size
The size depends on the excavator: the table below shows the machine weight range, dimensions, pin diameter, pin distance and lifting hook for each size. The S40 W, S50 W and S60 W have a greater building height than the S40, S50 and S60 (175 mm for the S60 W against 150 mm for the S60, for example) and take a wider dipper arm. If you are not sure which fits your machine, call us or use the form below.
