Steelwrist SQ Quick Couplers

Overview

Steelwrist’s SQ couplers are automatic quick couplers. The hydraulic connection is built into the coupler, so the operator can change hydraulic work tools, as well as mechanical ones, in seconds without leaving the cab. This page covers ten sizes, for excavators from 4 to 32 tonnes. Exc@v8 supplies them in the UK.

Automatic oil connection

With an automatic coupler the hydraulic connection is integrated in the quick coupler itself. Steelwrist introduced its SQ auto connection system in 2017. It connects both the hydraulics and the electrical signals in one movement.

Safer, faster tool changes

Demolition work involves frequent changes between hydraulic work tools, and keeping people out of the demolition zone is often mandatory, so an automatic coupler adds safety as well as productivity. With a tiltrotator, the automatic coupler also lets you disconnect the tiltrotator, for example when you need a hydraulic breaker.

Steel-cast construction

SQ couplers are cast in steel. Casting lets the material go where it is needed, such as large contact surfaces where the coupler meets the pins, and be left out where it isn’t, which gives a compact, robust coupler with no weak weld seams.

Safety

Steelwrist’s safety solutions are machine-independent: they work on all types of excavator, small or large, new or used. In the size table below, the SQ40W has Front Pin Hook (FPH), the SQ65 and SQ70/55 have LockSense, and the other sizes have Front Pin Lock (FPL). All its solutions comply with international safety regulations such as EN474 and ISO13031.

Electrical connectors (option)

The V14 electrical connector has 14 spring-loaded contact pins and is made for SQ couplers from the SQ50 up and for work tool applications. It can be retrofitted to existing SQ couplers and work tools. The H6 connector was developed for the smaller SQ40 size: it has six spring-loaded contact pins and all its inner parts are fully sealed against the environment.

Quick Coupler Controller (option)

The Quick Coupler Controller controls and monitors the coupler’s functions, such as locking and unlocking, optional pressure relief, and B-to-tank for switching between dual-direction and one-way flow. The control module is installed in the cab and an indicator panel shows the functions clearly. Installation is easy with the prepared connectors.

Choosing a size

The size depends on the excavator: the table below shows the machine weight range, dimensions, pin diameter, pin distance and lifting hook for each size. The SQ50W, SQ60-4W and SQ60-5W have a greater building height than the SQ50, SQ60-4 and SQ60-5 (175 mm for the SQ60-4W against 150 mm for the SQ60-4, for example) and take a wider dipper arm.
