Overview

The Steelwrist XTR23 is part of Steelwrist’s third-generation tiltrotators, introduced in 2024, for excavators between 19 and 23 tonnes. The generation brings best-in-class tilt geometry, the patented LockSense work tool locking and the OptiLube onboard lubrication system, with the low building height typical of Steelwrist tiltrotators. Exc@v8 supplies it in the UK.

Where the XTR23 fits

A tiltrotator widens the range of jobs the excavator can take on, from small-scale landscaping to roadwork and foundation work on construction sites. The XTR23 lets the excavator rotate a work tool 360° and tilt it 45° in each direction, with precise control.

Couplers and mounting

The XTR23 connects to the excavator through an SQ65, S70, SQ70 or SQ70/55 top. The tool side takes SQ65, S70, SQ70 and SQ70/55 quick couplers, following Steelwrist’s symmetrical S-standard. Steelwrist SQ is its automatic oil connection technology for changing and connecting hydraulic work tools.

Thanks to the modular design the tiltrotator can be upgraded from an S-type to an SQ-type interface later.

Weight, building height, length and cylinder width differ between these configurations, so those figures in the technical data are ranges. The product sheet lists every combination.

Work tool safety

The tool coupler has LockSense, a patented wireless sensor system for secure work tool locking that keeps cables and connectors out of the harsh environment.

Tilt geometry and lubrication

The design minimises cylinder spread through the tilt stroke for smooth, high-torque movement, and positions the tilt cylinders to keep clear of the excavator’s arm. The onboard OptiLube system lubricates automatically with a lubricant developed for Steelwrist tiltrotators, is built into the tiltrotator’s control system, and alerts the operator when the lubricant cartridge needs replacing.

Hydraulics and control

The XTR23 runs on an oil flow of 100 l/min at up to 220 bar.

The tiltrotator is delivered with the QuantumConnect control platform. It includes the InstallMate and QuantumConnect apps and stays up to date through its connectivity, and Steelwrist’s guidance app walks the installer through setup step by step, in most languages.

Gripper cassette (option)

A downward-angled 3-finger gripper cassette extends the excavator’s reach. Its improved geometry gives a wide opening and near-complete closure, so it handles objects precisely.
