Overview

The Steelwrist X04 is a tiltrotator optimised for compact excavators between 2 and 4 tonnes. Steelwrist’s small tiltrotators are built around flexibility, low building height and low weight, which matter most on compact machines, and use a steel cast structure to keep weight down while maximising strength. Exc@v8 supplies it in the UK.

Where the X04 fits

Compact excavators are often used for landscaping, material handling, stump removal and light demolition. A tiltrotator extends the reach into tight spaces and cuts the machine movements needed on site, which saves time and reduces wear on the machine and its surroundings. It is especially useful for trench digging and sewer lines in utility work, and with a grapple it suits clearing debris or placing and removing trees.

A compact excavator with a tiltrotator suits construction work on busy, confined city sites. Direct Fit is often chosen at this size, where the tiltrotator stays permanently mounted on the dipper arm.

Couplers and mounting

The X04 connects to the excavator through an S40 top, or Direct Fit (DF). The tool side takes S40 quick couplers, following Steelwrist’s symmetrical S-standard.

A Direct Fit unit takes pin diameters of 35–45 mm at pin distances of 130–240 mm, fits a dipper arm up to 142 mm wide and includes a 1-tonne lifting hook.

The X04 is also available with Verachtert (CW) coupler interface. With Verachtert (CW) the tiltrotator always has a Direct Fit configuration.

Building height, length and cylinder width differ between these configurations, so those figures in the technical data are ranges. The product sheet lists every combination.

Work tool safety

The tool coupler has Front Pin Hook (FPH), for safe work tool changes.

Hydraulics and control

The X04 runs on an oil flow of 28 l/min at up to 210 bar.

Steelwrist supplies two types of tiltrotator control system: the QuantumConnect platform, which includes the InstallMate and QuantumConnect apps and stays up to date through its connectivity, and the more basic four hose proportional machine control. The tiltrotator is delivered with a system that fits the excavator whether it needs a two or four hose solution.

Options

A gripper cassette with a finger gripper can be fitted to give the excavator more flexibility when handling objects, and can be retrofitted. Steelwrist also offers central lubrication fitted at the factory, compatible with all central lubrication systems on the market.
