Overview
The Seve S400 is a forestry shear head for hydraulic excavators from 13 to 20 tonnes. It cuts hardwood up to 400 mm in nominal diameter, or 500 mm at maximum capacity, with a clean, precise cut. Exc@v8 is the sole UK importer of Seve.
Cutting performance
The S400 has a high-performance hydraulic system with a speed valve as standard. Its cutting geometry and reinforced steel blades keep it cutting in tough conditions. The dual-blade design cuts more efficiently, reduces blade wear and the risk of deformation, and limits the stress on the carrier machine, which extends its service life.
Fitting and working with it
Its low weight in relation to its cutting capacity suits hydraulic excavators from 13 to 20 tonnes, and a mounting system made to measure for each type of machine makes it easy to fit and remove. The accumulator arm is included as standard and improves production rates, particularly with small timber.
The head is available with or without rotation, depending on the machine. With the optional continuous 360° rotation it can position each cut precisely, which helps in dense, hard-to-reach stands. Its sturdy but light construction keeps its impact on the ground low in wet areas or in winter, and the excavator’s movements stay quick, whether it is thinning or clear-felling. Outside the forest, it also suits roadsides, motorways and hard-to-reach places, where it can remove troublesome or dangerous trees safely in place of manual work.
Maintenance
The S400 is designed for simple maintenance, with accessible components so work can be done in the field. Its high-strength steel wear parts can be replaced without complex disassembly, which lowers the cost of ownership, and the position of the blades is easy to adjust.
Options
Options let the head be fitted to the job:
- A complete rotation module (adding 350 kg) with a double hydraulic motor for more torque and continuous 360° rotation through a high-flow rotary joint (140 l/min for 1 bar of pressure loss), needing no additional line on the excavator
- A CAN-bus box linking the head and the excavator
- An attachment module for mounting on the excavator
- Compatibility with tiltrotators of all makes
- Wireless control of the low-flow hydraulic lines
Where it is used
- Commercial logging: fast, efficient felling for firewood or industrial timber, in clear-cutting or thinning.
- Urban forest management: pruning and safe cutting of trees along roads and sensitive infrastructure.
- Power corridors: rapid removal of trees and branches threatening high-voltage lines.
- Restoration of degraded forests: selective removal of dead trees and invasive species to encourage natural regeneration.
Quick answers
